Catherine Nelson is a retired senior executive, with over 40 years of experience in management consulting—focusing on all aspects of financial, resource, human capital and information technology management, including the deployment of supporting enterprise-level business and administrative management systems. Through CA Nelson Consulting, where she served as CEO until 2023, she leveraged her extensive experience in strategy and management consulting to provide senior level advisory, planning, market strategy and various related support services focused on “C-Suite” operations across the Defense, Intelligence, Civil, Academic, Not for Profit, and Commercial market sectors. Catherine has an extensive working knowledge of industry best practices which she has applied on behalf of her clients to maximize effectiveness and efficiency, achieve transformational change, and set the stage for an improved future.
Prior to establishing CA Nelson Consulting, Catherine served as the Chief Growth Officer for LMI, a management consulting firm serving the federal public sector. In this role, she was responsible for envisioning and standing up a turn-key business development function, as well as overseeing and growing the company’s business portfolio. During her time with LMI, she also led LMI’s Resource Management business focused on developing and delivering organizational improvement, human capital management, information technology, acquisition strategy, performance and financial management consulting capabilities.
Prior to LMI, Catherine was a Senior Vice President with Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH), where she led the firm’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Agenda consulting practice. She was responsible for developing and delivering a broad array of services and capabilities targeted to the strategic, tactical, and operational responsibilities of the public sector CFO and resource management communities. Concurrently, she was a key leader in BAH’s homeland security and law enforcement market sector responsible for developing business with the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and Justice. Prior to BAH, she also worked for Freddie Mac, ICF International, and Arthur Young & Company (now Ernst & Young, LLP), providing financial management and business systems consulting support.
Catherine has significant not for profit and charitable organization Board and board governance experience, having served on the Board of Directors for The Women’s Center of Northern Virginia, Leadership Fairfax, Reston, and Reston Runners Community Fund.
Catherine holds two degrees from Duke University: an MBA, with a concentration in accounting, and a bachelor’s in economics. She is a Certified Government Financial Manager and Project Management Professional. Catherine is living with Parkinson’s Disease.
