Steve Munson is American University’s Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Steve has worked across a diverse range of technologies, industries, and organizations as both a consultant and executive in higher education.
Since joining American University in 2020, Steve has transformed the enterprise technology landscape with implementation of leading-edge systems and modernizing campus infrastructure. In 2026, Steve successfully completed the most comprehensive implementation of the Salesforce CRM in the country to support all admissions and recruiting functions across both Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions.
Prior to joining American University, Steve was the Chief Information Officer at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia for seven years. Steve started his career as a consultant with Accenture and The North Highland Company. In addition to helping clients in higher education, he has worked in the telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and health care service industries. Steve earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University.
Steve has lived in Alexandria, Virginia since 2007. He is originally from Connecticut and is a dedicated fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.
