Exercise to Improve Quality of Life with Parkinson’s Disease

It’s no secret that regular exercise is good for us. Because Parkinson’s disease (PD) affects physical movement, it can be discouraging to undertake an exercise program. However, regular exercise can provide significant benefits to those with PD:

  • Improved posture
  • Greater strength and balance
  • Better circulation
  • Increased ability to walk
  • Better muscle control
  • Decreased chance of falling

Some Parkinsonians have found the benefits of exercise to include improved ability to speak and swallow. A heightened sense of well being is an almost guaranteed by-product of regular exercise.

It is our mission to improve the quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s disease, their care partners and families. Accordingly, we strongly encourage exercise as an integral part of living with PD.

PFNCA sponsors 48 exercise classes per month in the National Capital Area.

An additional 60 exercise classes are offered throughout the National Capital Area for people with Parkinson's and their carepartners.

If you are interested in joining our exercise classes, please call us at 703-734-1017 or email us at pfnca@parkinsonfoundation.org.
